In anticipation of my printable back to school party that I'm working on, I thought I would share a craft/recipe from my other blog:
Cookin' Up Crafty Fun. My other poor blog has been sorely neglected since I started my etsy shop. But! I am starting a craft club for our spouses' group so it's about to be a hotbed of activity soon enough : ) Anyhow, I shared a post a while back about pretzel crayon treats that I made for stamp club. I loved how they turned out so I shared the template that I made for the crayons, which I'm sure I can improve but will have to wait. I was inspired by a long-ago project
here. I found a bag of pretzels at Walmart that were already the perfect crayon size and they were a honey-wheat type flavor. I dipped them in Wilton colored candy melts and they taste soooo good. I made the crayon wrapper template on my computer and printed it on cheapo cardstock. I found the box template
here. I used the 16 count crayon box and it fit four pretzels perfectly. Then I just did some typing in text boxes and adhered
them to the front of the box to make the card. If you ever make these just be sure to clarify to people that the 'crayons' are pretzels. They do look kind of waxy. And if you've never worked with Wilton candy melts, they are cheesy easy. They come in different colors with directions on the package. I opt for the microwave method. I just pour some melts into a small glass, microwave on 50% power for one minute, stir, microwave again this time on full power for 30 seconds, stir, microwave one last time on high for 30 seconds. And voila! Ready for dipping. I lay down wax paper and dip half of each pretzel and then allow it to cool and harden. Then I dip the other half of the pretzels and allow them to cool. Beware though, the flavor of the honey-gold pretzels and the wilton melts can be a bit addictive (just ask my hubby : ) For the crayon wrappers you can download them from 4shared free. You do have to sign up for an account, which is also free. Just a tip, print these on cheapo colored paper. Thick cardstock is really hard to wrap around pretzels. I use the super sticky roll of red adhesive tape that you can find at craft stores. I didn't want to use glue when people were going to be eating these.
